Holster 1911A1
One of my buddies in the IILG [Thanks Art] sent me some patterns for John Moses Browning's/ Colt 45 ACP/1911A1 Government Model Pistol. This one is based on his pattern with some modifications to suit my needs. When I recieved the pattern it was cut a little lower and had a strap. After the molding process of the first one I made I wasn't happy with where the strap fell and the top edge of the hoster flared out at the back edge of the trigger housing. The way I mold a holster, a combination of boning and hard molding, a strap is not neccesary as the firearm is extremely secure in the form fitting holster. So I made another one eliminating the strap and cut the front and back a bit taller to completely cover the trigger guard. It makes for a much better looking rig and adds a little more friction area to hold the firearm. After the inital boning process I stamped the whole rig with a small basket weave stamp and put a mini sunburst border around it just to give it a little class. This requires much tool tipping and is a devil to keep it all in line. Then I finished up the boning and reclamped the hard molds in the trigger guard and ejection port areas and let it finish the molding process. The next step was to apply an acrylic resoline finish inside and out to seal it from oils, grease, sweat and any other moisture. After this was dry the outside got a coat of antique finish then another coat of resoline.
I've worn this rig almost everyday for two weeks now and it is a very comfortable, easy riding rig and is still very secure.
Give me a shout if you think a rig like this for your 1911A1 will suit your needs. I'll be making more real soon.
